CGC Adeniyi Assesses Kano Customs Training Facility Ahead of Recruits’ Arrival


The Comptroller General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD, on Saturday, 29 August 2026, undertook an inspection of Customs Training College, Goron Dutse, Kano, as part of efforts to ascertain the institution’s preparedness for the commencement of 2026 Customs Basic Training Programme.
The inspection provided the CGC ample opportunity to evaluate the College’s facilities, ongoing projects, logistics, accommodation and other critical requirements ahead of arrival of recruits for the 2025/2026 training exercise.
The visit underscored the Service’s commitment to ensuring that the institution is adequately positioned to deliver a comprehensive and professionally oriented training programme for the incoming personnel.
On arrival, the CGC was received by the Zonal Coordinator, Zone B, Assistant Comptroller General of Customs, Nsikan Umoh; Comptroller, Federal Operations Unit, Zone B, Aminu Sule; Commandant of the Customs Training College, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Umar Atiku; alongside other principal officers and heads of units.
Speaking during the inspection, CGC Adeniyi reaffirmed the Service’s determination to provide the requisite infrastructure, logistics and enabling environment necessary for effective training and capacity development.
He emphasised that the quality of training received by new recruits would have a significant bearing on their professional competence, discipline and effectiveness in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.
He therefore stressed the need for the College to maintain a high level of operational and institutional readiness, noting that the training environment must be sufficiently equipped to impart the knowledge, skills and professional ethos required of modern Customs officers.
According to him, the recruitment exercise represents an important investment in the future of the Service and must consequently be supported by a training framework capable of producing competent, disciplined and service-oriented personnel.
In his briefing, the Commandant of the College, DC Umar Atiku, briefed the CGC of the institution’s ongoing activities, developmental projects and measures being implemented to ensure seamless reception and training of the incoming recruits.
He also highlighted the progress recorded in preparations for the programme.
The CGC subsequently embarked on a comprehensive tour of the College’s facilities, inspecting key areas and assessing their level of preparedness. The inspection formed part of the Service’s broader efforts to strengthen human capital development and ensure that newly recruited officers are exposed to a robust training regiment befitting the evolving demands of contemporary Customs administration.
