Fresh impetus : Ogun 1 Customs supports government’s economic diversification through export
...As DC Afeni posts 10,110 metric tons of export with FOB value of N2.6bn

By dint of hard work and resilience, the Ogun 1 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt that an enforcement formation can simultaneously serve as a formidable catalyst for trade facilitation and economic diversification through non-oil exports.
The Area Controller of the Command, DC Oladapo Afeni, showed this pragmatically in the just concluded media conference, held in Idiroko, on Thursday, 13 August, 2026, when he unveiled impressive export volume of 10,110 metric tons, with Free On Board ,FOB, value of approximately N2.6 billion recorded within a relatively short period, from July to August, this year.
Certainly, the achievement by Ogun 1 Command represents a significant contribution to the Federal Government’s drive to expand Nigeria’s non-oil export base, stimulate productive enterprise and strengthen the country’s position in international trade.

Afeni explained that the principal commodities driving the export performance included white talc, crushed thermal coal and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), underscoring the Command’s growing capacity to facilitate the outward movement of commercially valuable Nigerian products.
Point of Interest :
The turning point is that this feat is particularly noteworthy given Ogun 1 Command’s predominantly enforcement-oriented operational environment, where the protection of the nation’s economic frontiers remains a core responsibility.
Against this backdrop, DC Afeni has brought remarkable resilience, diligence and strategic purpose to export processing, proving that effective enforcement and trade facilitation are not mutually exclusive.
Fresh Impetus :
His stewardship has injected fresh impetus into the Command’s operations, creating an environment in which legitimate exporters can access efficient Customs services while economic saboteurs face uncompromising resistance.
Through this balanced approach, Afeni is helping to translate the government’s economic diversification policy from a strategic aspiration into measurable operational outcomes.
Aligning Enforcement Duties With
National Economic Agenda :
At the heart of this performance is Afeni’s operational acumen and innovative mindset. His leadership has demonstrated a keen understanding of the need to align Customs enforcement with the broader national economic agenda, particularly the imperative to promote exports, support domestic production and encourage value creation.
By strengthening efficient export processing within his area of responsibility, he has shown a capacity to implement government policies with pragmatism, precision and institutional foresight. His approach reflects a modern understanding of Customs administration that combines vigilance at the borders with responsiveness to legitimate trade, thereby positioning the Command as both a guardian of the economy and enabler of commerce.
More so, N2.6 billion export milestone is therefore more than a statistical achievement; it is a testament to the commitment, ingenuity and painstaking efforts of the officers and men of Ogun 1 Command under Afeni’s leadership.
By sustaining this momentum, Ogun 1 Command is contributing meaningfully to the emergence of a more diversified and resilient Nigerian economy, while reaffirming the Nigeria Customs Service’s evolving role as a strategic institution for revenue generation, economic protection and trade facilitation.
